The queen of Sheba drops by to see Solomon for a visit. She had heard of his great wealth and wisdom and wanted to see for herself. She was overwhelmed and realized that not even half of the greatness had been told to her. She gave Solomon a few gifts, and went on her way.
Solomon was a baller at this point... he had every covered in gold and made an elaborate ivory and gold throne for himself. His army's shields were made out of gold and is ships brought in gold by that boatloads.
Sadly, Solomon also had a wandering heart and fell in "love" with many women from place that God had advised him not to take wives from. He had 700 freaking wive and 300 concubines... this is why I said he was in "love" haha. Just as God warned, the women led him astray and he started worshiping and making sacrifices/offerings to other gods. God vowed to strip him of the kingdom, but out of compassion decides to not do it during his lifetime--it will happen during his son's lifetime. So the son is basically getting punished for his father's mistake... doesn't seem right does it?
God does raise up adversaries to make the rest of Solomon's life a bit more challenging. Even one of his own officials turns against him. Not much more is said other than Solomon dies and his son Rehoboam gets the kingdom.
