I'm on a journey to read through the Bible in chronological order. Taking it one day at a time, I will read based on a list I found on the internet and blog about what happened, thoughts provoked, emotions conjured, etc. Enjoy!

Day sixty-two: Numbers 18-20

I've read this a few times but it never hit me until now. Aaron gets a portion of every offering... every animal, fruit, grain, oil, etc. He's given fine clothes and the choicest foods to eat... God has completely hooked him up! No wonder everyone is so jealous!

I apologize for speaking out of turn earlier. To this point the Israelites had not seen the water come from the rock. But in chapter 20, they begin grumbling (again) and are provided for (again) with water. The problem is that Moses and Aaron are told to simply speak to the rock (they hit it) and they make no mention of God (seemingly taking all the credit). God is obviously not very happy with this and tells them they will never lead the people to the Promised Land nor enter themselves...sad day.

God has Moses take Aaron and his son up on a mountain. Aaron disrobes and places his clothes on his son and then dies as the Lord said he would. There is a lot of mystery shrouding this whole event. Did God know it was just Aaron's time and wanted it to be a ritual of him passing the mantle to his son? Or did God send him up there to die and again wanted to make it a ritualistic death? Something to think about...
