I'm on a journey to read through the Bible in chronological order. Taking it one day at a time, I will read based on a list I found on the internet and blog about what happened, thoughts provoked, emotions conjured, etc. Enjoy!

Day sixty-seven: Numbers 31-32

God commands them to march on Midian for the sin and trespasses they brought upon Israel with Baal and the fornication. The army of Israel kills every adult and child male as well as any woman who has "known a man intimately". So basically only the virgin women and little girls were spared. The people are then to go through the purifying ritual if they have killed, touched or seen a dead body. The loot from the war is to be tithed to God and then divided among the warriors. I am having trouble wrapping my head around this side of God. The warlord that pillages and plunders cities and orders people to die and split their goods among the people… so very pirate of Him. On a sideline, it mentions that Balaam is killed. Yes, the same Balaam who did not curse them and stood for them against Balak…BOGUS.

Descendants of Reuben and Gad ask to settle in the land because of the ridiculous size of the flocks. It is implied that where they will settle will put them in a position that they would not have to go to war if the need arises. Moses says they can have the land if they will remain at the ready if the call comes--they agree to remain ready until every son of Israel has gained his inheritance.
