I'm on a journey to read through the Bible in chronological order. Taking it one day at a time, I will read based on a list I found on the internet and blog about what happened, thoughts provoked, emotions conjured, etc. Enjoy!

Day seventy-one: Deuteronomy 3-4

Moses continues reminding Israel of their journeys. What struck me for the first time is that Canaan was not this lovely, uninhabited land just waiting for Israel to settle it. It was already settled, and God told them to kill and plunder its inhabitants and take the land for themselves. I knew we had a wrathful God, but it just seems so vicious!

Moses reminds the people of their great responsibility to set an example among other men; to keep God's laws and not add or subtract anything from them. They are not to make idols or they will quickly perish. Our God is a jealous God and doesn't take affairs very lightly. He reminds them to think back on all of the miraculous sings and wonders they have seen and to remember how they felt at that time. After all that God has done for them, the LEAST they could do is follow His commands!
