The ordination ritual of Aaron and his fellow priests is carried out just as God commanded. Just as they take their place, God comes down in a blaze of fire and burns up everything on the altar. The people rejoice and fall prostrate...it means the Lord is pleased with what they have done. 2 of Aaron's sons try to add incense to the fire (which is something God strictly prohibited) and they are also consumed in the fire.
Moses gives strict instructions that no one is to drink wine or any kind of alcohol and go into the Tent of Meeting. They are to do this to draw a clear line between "holy and common". The role of Aaron and his sons is an upright and rigid role. They have very clear guidelines that they must follow and there isn't really any room for error. I am again so thankful that Jesus took the blame for my unrighteousness!!!
