I'm on a journey to read through the Bible in chronological order. Taking it one day at a time, I will read based on a list I found on the internet and blog about what happened, thoughts provoked, emotions conjured, etc. Enjoy!

Day forty-one: Exodus 33-35

The Lord sends an angel before the Israelites but will not travel with them Himself because He feels His wrath is too intense. While they rest, Moses sets up a "tent of meeting" and talks with the Lord daily. "11 The LORD would speak to Moses face to face, as a man speaks with his friend." JEALOUS!

Moses appeals to the Lord to have His presence travel with them and the Lord agrees. But first, Moses asks to for God to reveal His glory to him. God agrees to let him see His back, but tells him he will die if he sees God's face. Moses goes up on the mountain with another set of stone tablets to replace the ones he broke. God then passes before him and tells him He will spare the Israelites if they follow His commands. The passage keeps calling them "stiff-necked people". I'm not sure what that means to them...

After coming down from the mountain, every sees that Moses' face is "radiant" from being with the Lord. I wonder if this means he was smiling really big or actually glowing. Either way, its awesome that everyone could instantly tell that he was in the presence of God! Moses tells them about the steps that need to be taken to build the Tabernacle as previously instructed and they hop right to it.

I wish that I had hope that their enthusiasm to please God would stick, but something tells me that they will revert to their old ways soon enough.
