I'm on a journey to read through the Bible in chronological order. Taking it one day at a time, I will read based on a list I found on the internet and blog about what happened, thoughts provoked, emotions conjured, etc. Enjoy!

Day fifty-four: Numbers 1-2

The saga of Numbers begins....

God tells Moses to take a census of all the people. He is also to take note of men over the age of 20 who can fight. All of the tribes were counted except for the Levites--they were placed over the Tabernacle. It doesn't say exactly why the tribe of Levi was chosen for this task, but it seems like a great honor (unless you really wanted to go to battle...then not so much).

The clans are separated and they are told to camp outside of the Tent of Meeting under their banner. Granted there are 50,000+ in each tribe so they camped a good ways away from each other. The Levites placed their camp right outside the Tent of Meeting as God instructed them to.

So far Numbers isn't toooooooo bad :) After doing a little internet research, I found that Moses and Aaron were Levites...pretty much explains why they were chosen to care for the Tabernacle. God found favor in the way Moses has led the people and wanted to grant his direct line with a position of honor.
